Their new fifth floor walk-up apartment, Corie's loopy mother and the eccentric neighbor who lives in the attic set the scene for Neil Simon's longest running Broadway play, "Barefoot in the Park," which opens January 28 at the Algonquin. Michals' Broadway debut came as Beast in "Beauty and the Beast," performing opposite Andrea McArdle, Deborah Gibson and Toni Braxton. Most recently, he starred in the latest revival of "South Pacific" at Lincoln Center that closed in 2010. He first played the role of Emile "down the shore" in Spring Lake in 1981. The PNC Foundation awarded Algonquin Arts a $15,000 grant to provide educational and cultural opportunities for over 200 Asbury Park, Neptune, and Howell Head Start students and their teachers.
