MANASQUAN, N.J. (Oct. 29, 2012): "Boardwalk Empire's" Adam Mucci comes to Manasquan on Nov. 3 to host "World's Best Short Films" at Algonquin Arts Theatre at 8 p.m.
New York City's longest running exhibition of award-winning short films, "World's Best Short Films" returns to the Algonquin with a new lineup after a successful, entertaining debut last fall. The evening is sponsored by Optimum Health Chiropractic and Linda P. Hejduk & Peter A. Flihan, Jr.
Produced as a fast-paced event in a "Short Film Concert" format, the program features the best in comedy, drama and animation by combining classic shorts with international festival winners. A rare opportunity to see world-class films on the big screen in a theatrical setting, each of the one dozen titles included in "World's Best Short Films" ranges from one to 15 minutes long presented back to back much like a musician's set list.
Mucci, a New Jersey native and graduate of Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts, has worked with some of the biggest stars in the world including Johnny Depp, Al Pacino, Will Ferrell, Kate Winslet and Marion Coutillard. He has also worked with some of the greatest directors of our time such as Martin Scorsese, Michael Mann, Sam Mendes, Barry Levinson and Adam McKay. His credits include "Public Enemies," "Boardwalk Empire," "The Sopranos," "Law & Order," "Blue Bloods" & more.
Tickets for "World's Best Short Films" are $12 and available online at algonquinarts.org, by calling 732-528-9211 or by stopping in to the box office at 173 Main Street. The exhibition is recommended for audiences age 16 and up.
Director Doug LeClaire's Asbury Shorts, celebrating its 31th Anniversary, has taken programs around the world from Boston to Chicago and Berlin to London. Director Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air) has hosted the show and called it "The best short film show I've ever seen."
Films in this year's lineup are from New York City, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Australia, Ireland and everywhere in between. Trailers for select films are posted on the Algonquin Arts Theatre Facebook page.
Highlights include "The Lost Thing" by Andrew Ruhemann & Shaun Tanand - the 2011 Academy Award winner for Best Animated Short. One of the films, "The Quality of Mercy" stars Mary-Louise Parker of Showtime's "Weeds" as a struggling actress.
The first film created by directors Mark and Jay Duplass who have directed five feature films in the last seven years including "Jeff, Who Lives At Home" is included. Sundance accepted "This is John" in 2003 a film produces for the $3 cost of the tape on which it was shot.
Algonquin Arts Theatre was founded in 1992 as a nonprofit organization to provide cultural enrichment and educational enhancement of the highest quality for Central New Jersey residents.
