MANASQUAN, N.J. (August 12, 2013) - Broadway star Carter Calvert returns to the Algonquin Arts Theatre stage with the Roger Cohen Trio in a one-night concert that shouldn't be missed.
Calvert mesmerized audiences in January starring in the title role in "Always Patsy Cline" opposite Sally Struthers at Algonquin Arts Theatre. She is best known for originating her role in the Tony nominated "It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues" on Broadway, the European tour of "Smokey Joe's Cafe," Grizabella in the Broadway National Tour of "Cats" and the title role in "Always Patsy Cline" at theatres across the country.
The concert will feature jazz standards, American songbook classics, Broadway, blues and pop hits, making each song her own with her rich, soulful sound. And of course, there will be a reprise of Patsy Cline's biggest hits.
Tickets are available starting at $33 for adults, $31 for seniors and $23 for students online at algonquinarts.org, by calling (732) 528-9211 or at the Algonquin Box Office at 173 Main Street between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Individual tickets are subject to a $2 per ticket processing fee.
The concert highlights the second Fine Arts & Music Night in Manasquan hosted by the Manasquan Chamber of Commerce. Starting at 4 p.m., artists and musicians will line Main Street.
Calvert's latest album "Carter Calvert and The Roger Cohen Trio" debuted at number 13 on the CMJ Jazz chart beating out Sir Paul McCartney.
"Carter Calvert effervesces: her voice echoes chimes in the night!" exclaimed The New York Times.
Roger Cohen returns to the Algonquin stage at the drums, a position he sat comfortably during "Always Patsy Cline." His trio, which also includes pianist Jim West, bassist Brian Glassman, backs Calvert with their superb musicianship.
Aside from the timeless music, Calvert is a master story teller. Her hilarious yet heartfelt take on 'making it in the biz' will delight audiences of all ages.
