Concert: Percussionist Svet Stoyanov

Manasquan, NJ - Percussionist Svet Stoyanov will take the stage at Algonquin Arts on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 10 am, as part of Algonquin Arts' Morning Music Series. This performance, sponsored by Donald & Phyllis Sutherland, Vic Firth Drumsticks, and The Pearl Drum Corporation, will be organized into a one-hour concert followed by a 30-minute talk back with the artist.

Mr. Stoyanov has been praised for his "unmistakable virtuosity" on the marimba and a wide variety of percussion instruments by The New York Times. He has performed with the Chicago Symphony led by James Conlon at the Ravinia Festival; the American Symphony Orchestra and Leon Botstein at Avery Fisher Hall (Lincoln Center debut); the Seattle Symphony with music director Gerard Schwarz; and the New York Pops with Skitch Henderson at Carnegie Hall, to name a few. Mr. Stoyanov earned his Bachelor's degree from the Peabody Institute and his Master's degree from the Yale School of Music. He is now the Department Head of Percussion at the University of Miami.

As part of Algonquin Arts' community outreach initiatives, percussion students from The Hope Academy Charter School in Asbury Park have been invited to perform on stage during the talk back with Mr. Stoyanov, participating in a detailed examination of percussion instruments and techniques. The students who will be in attendance are Joseph Schneider (kindergarten), Aaliyah Jones (1st grade), Brian Mombrun (1st grade), Vincent Accoo (2nd grade), Daniel Flores (2nd grade), An'Yea Miles (3rd grade), Shamar Richardson (4th grade), Herol Valcin (4th grade), Somala Atta (5th grade), and Henry McGee (5th grade).

Algonquin Arts is located at 173 Main Street in downtown Manasquan, NJ.
