Algonquin Arts Theatre accepts resumes for directors, musical directors, choreographers, designers (scenic, lighting, costumes, props) stage managers and stage technicians on a rolling basis.

We currently have limited positions available, but accept resumes for consideration for future productions or other special projects.

Job title: Teaching Artist

Teaching artists are an integral part of our work at Algonquin Arts Theatre, whether you are an artist who wants to incorporate teaching into your practice or you are an arts educator with years of classroom experience.

Algonquin's Arts Education programs rely on the unique expertise of teaching artists. Our objective is to guide teaching artists through the creative educational process in order to ensure that our students, educators, and audience members have the best possible arts learning experience.

Work Location: Algonquin Arts/Various Program Sites throughout Monmouth and Ocean County, NJ

Reports to: Director of Arts Education, Julie Nagy

Part-time Position/ Contractor

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts (significant experience)
  • Related academic and practical experience in an art discipline; professional experience a plus
  • Two years minimum teaching artist experience with various age groups and educational settings
  • Understanding and experience with creative and arts-based pedagogical methods for the teaching of the art discipline (i.e. inquiry-based learning, arts integrated studies, skills-based instruction and aesthetic education, etc.)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to serving children (K-12)
  • Classroom management skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with NJ Student Learning Standards, National Core Arts Standards and/or experience with social emotional learning framework(s)
    • Demonstrate a depth of knowledge in their art form
  • Must successfully pass New Jersey Department of Education (Office of Student Protection) background check

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.

Teaching Artist agrees to participate in programs at the Algonquin Arts Theatre that provides arts education programming throughout Monmouth and Ocean County, NJ. These programs may occur during school and after school. The Teaching Artist is understood to be a part-time (contracted) employee and may not be guaranteed a fixed number of instructional units.

All teaching artists are required to prepare outlines and individual lesson plans for each class, workshop or residency in which they are hired to work. Many residencies require collaborative planning with classroom teachers.Certain instructional units and lessons may be required to be created based on New Jersey State Standards.
