The Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers — led by the acclaimed dancer who has performed with such greats as Savion Glover and Gregory Hines! This finalist
in Star Search and her rhythm tap dancers create and perform choreography to both original music and new arrangements of standards. The troupe is known for performances with dynamic improvisational
elements, synchronized ensemble dancing and stunning solo work. Sophisticated musical arrangements and strong visual choreography create dynamic interactions among dancers and musicians moving the
audience to get their feet tapping and hands clapping.
The David Leonhardt Jazz Group — internationally known for creative improvisation, playing a mixture of jazz standards and pianist David Leonhardt‚s original compositions.
Guest appearances include the International Arts Festival of Shenzen in China, the Winnipeg Jazz Festival, The French Maison de Dance in Lyon, as well festivals and concerts throughout the United
States. The group has also received enthusiastic applause at The Apollo Theater, The Blue Note, Birdland, The Village Gate and other New York area nightclubs.

Jazz Dance
9–10:30 am

Explore the fundamentals of jazz dance technique including syncopations, body isolations and polyrhythms. Pick up combinations from original Broadway choreography, classic jazz and hip-hop.
Tap Technique
10:30 am – 12 pm
Shelley Oliver & Rebekkah Brown
Laugh and learn in this fun, music inspired class covering all the basics of rhythm tap, including syncopated beats and combinations, fast paced footwork and swinging rhythms.

Take in this interactive workshop covering aspects of music as it relates to dance. With participation by The Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers, performers will demonstrate their art in a casual performance
setting. Student participation gives young dance students direct access to experienced artists as they perform and explain their creative art forms. Learn elements of jazz music, creative improvisation,
and rhythm, as well as gain experience that will enhance and inspire your own creativity.

Special Friday Rehearsals with the David Leonhardt Trio
(Friday, 12:45 -2:15 pm – Intermediate
Friday, 2:15 – 3:45 pm – Intermediate/Advanced)
David Leonhardt will be joined by his bassist and percussionist to accompany all the students in their public presentation of dances on Friday. The jazz trio will work with dance
students to practice the routines and will conduct the music workshops for that day. Learn what is involved in working with live music. A rare opportunity for the emerging young
dancer to rehearse routines with a world class jazz trio.

SHELLEY OLIVER (Artistic Director, Tap Technique, Improvisation, Repertory) a Canadian born tap dancer, choreographer,
and educator, has over twenty years experience as a professional appearing internationally with some of the legends of the tap world. She is a founding member of the noted dance ensemble, Manhattan
Tap, also serving as co-artistic director/choreographer. A noted soloist as well, Ms. Oliver has toured extensively throughout Europe, China, the Caribbean, Canada and the United States. She has
worked with such tap notables as Savion Glover, Gregory Hines, Jimmy Slide, Buster Brown, Charles “Cookie” Cook, Steve Condos, Fred Strickler, and Chuck Green. She has produced a popular series
of Tap Dance CDs “Tap Music For Tap Dancers” designed as an educational aid for tap students worldwide. As a young performer, Ms. Oliver was a finalist in the television hit Star Search. Other television
appearances include Tap Dance in America with Gregory Hines. She has performed with great jazz musicians including Slide Hampton, David “Fathead” Newman, Robin Eubanks, and Kenny Washington. A well-known
dance educator she teaches jazztap at Muhlenberg College, choreographs for the theater, and is Director
of the Muhlenberg Jazz Tap Ensemble. She has conducted workshops and residencies for Lincoln Center, New York City Public Schools and universities through out the United States.
DAVID LEONHARDT (Music and Dance Workshop) has over thirty-five years of professional piano experience including work with such tap giants
as Savion Glover, Jimmy Slide, Buster Brown, Charles “Cookie” Cook, Steve Condos, and Honey Coles. He was musical director for jazz vocalist Jon Hendricks, the dance ensemble Manhattan Tap, the
Maison du Dance in Lyon, France, The Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers, and The Muhlenberg Jazz Tap Ensemble. Mr. Leonhardt has appeared internationally throughout North and South America, Europe, the
Middle and Far East with some of the biggest names in jazz. Jazz credits include performances with Stan Getz, Ron Carter, Herbie Mann, Phil Woods, Tom Harrell, Gary Bartz, Buddy Defranco, Dave Liebman,
Slide Hampton, David “Fathead” Newman, Hank Crawford, Claudio Roditi and Buddy Tate, and accompanying vocalists such as Diane Reeves and Bobby McFarren. He has recorded and arranged numerous CDs,
has written arrangements for The Art Blakey Big Band and been guest conductor and arranger for The Benny Carter Orchestra. Mr. Leonhardt has produced and performed on the seven CD tap series “Tap
Music For Tap Dancers” with tens of thousands of tappers dancing along with his music.
REBEKKAH BROWN (Tap Technique, Improvisation, Repertory) a founding member of the Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers, is a native of Pennsylvania.
Throughout her early dance career, she regularly competed in regional dance competition, earning hundreds of trophies in tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, hip-hop and modeling events. She studied under
the direction of the late David Blight, a dance master in central Pennsylvania. Rebekkah graduated
summa cum laude from Muhlenberg College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre and dance. She has appeared in productions of Oklahoma!, Brigadoon,
Cabaret, 42nd Street, Anything Goes, Guys and Dolls, and A Funny
Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. She has worked with modern artists such as Doug Varone and Nicholas Leichter and studied tap under such legendary artists as Savion Glover, Dianne
Walker, Brenda Bufalino, Germaine Salsberg and Buster Brown. Ms. Brown teaches master classes, holds residencies and choreographs for dancers throughout the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania
regions.
JENNY LYNN PETERS (Jazz Dance, Improvisation, Repertory) holds a B.A. in theater/dance. She toured the world in the National Tour company
of 42nd Street, and performed in American Musical Celebration, an all singing, all dancing musical revue at Broadway in the Dells in Wisconsin. Regionally she has been
seen in George M!, Annie Get Your Gun and Dames At Sea. Favorite roles include Little Red in
Into the Woods and Hildy in On the Town, both which earned her Irene Ryan Nominations. She has worked with choreographers Germaine Salsburg,
Rick Conant, and Randy Skinner. Ms. Peters is currently on faculty with Stagestruck Performing Arts Center teaching drama and dance, and conducts a summer drama workshop at the Bickford Theater
in Morristown.
ALEXANDRA REEKIE (Jazz Dance, Improvisation) earned her BA in Dance and Media & Communications from Muhlenberg College, where she graduated
Summa Cum Laude in 2007. She currently teaches for Dance Fusion
Performing Arts Studio in Fogelsville, PA and has taught for the Muhlenberg Community Dance Center, Muhlenberg’s Performing Arts Workshop, and Camp Imagine Performing Arts Camp in Allentown, PA.
Ms. Reekie has worked with such choreographers as Charles O. Anderson, Tiffany Mills, Keith Thompson, and Shelley Oliver. She has presented her choreography at the American College Dance Festival
and the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and currently assists with development for Rennie Harris Puremovement.
CHRISTINA LINDSAY (Dance Intensive Intern) has a BA in Dance and Psychology from Muhlenberg College. She is also a Presidential Scholar and
RJ Fellow. She was accepted in the Hahneman Creative Arts in Therapy Program of Drexel University Graduate Program and will be attending in the fall.
MATTHEW PARRISH (Bass — David Leonhardt Jazz Group) a leading young jazz musician has performed or recorded with Clark Terry, Regina Carter,
Wynton Marsalis, Ravi Coltrane, Mickey Roker, Bobby Durham, Shirley Scott, Marion McPartland, Al Grey, Stefon Harris, and Greg Osby. He has toured the world and can be heard on numerous jazz CDs.
PAUL WELLS (Percussionist — David Leonhardt Jazz Group) has been in demand on the New York jazz scene for years. He has performed and recorded
with many jazz greats and was recently the drummer on a national tour with rocker Debbie Harry of Blondie fame. He holds the drum chair in The Duke Ellington Legacy Band and has also performed with
Joe Williams, Norman Simmons, Randy Brecker, Eric Alexander, Larry Goldings, Rufus Reid, Mark Murphy, Rick Margitza, Dave Valentin, and Houston Person.
