MANASQUAN, NJ - The REEL HISTORY Film Series returns to Algonquin Arts Theatre on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m. with "Fed Up!," a film that provides an overview on the current food production system.

Presented in association with The Garden State Film Festival and the Manasquan High School History Club, the film will be followed by a discussion led by Dr. Catherine Folio, chair of the environmental science department at Brookdale Community College.

Using both hilarious and disturbing archival footage, "Fed Up!" presents an entertaining, informative and compelling overview of the current food production system from the Green Revolution to the Biotech Revolution and demonstrates how community supported agriculture and small-scale organic farming are alternatives to agribusiness and industrial food.

The film features interviews with farmers, scientists, government officials and activists to explore the unintentional effects of pesticides, the resistance of biotechnology companies to food labeling and the links between government officials and major biotechnology and chemical companies.

The program is not just for students; history buffs, film lovers and foodies alike should not miss this event. Tickets are just $5 and available at the door and can be printed at home or school in advance by purchasing at algonquinarts.org.

REEL HISTORY was created by Manasquan High School history teacher James Fagen and Garden State Film Festival founder and Algonquin Arts Theatre Director of Community Outreach Diane Raver, as a way to enrich the community while enhancing the curriculum for local students.

Upcoming topics include the Cold War, Women's Rights and 1920s Culture. A complete schedule and synopsis of each film is available at algonquinarts.org.
