Algonquin Arts names development coordinator

Algonquin Arts recently appointed Brett Colby as the non-profit organization’s new development coordinator.

According to the organization, Mr. Colby will help generate financial resources necessary for the organization to continue its artistic mission.

Mr. Colby graduated from Rowan University, Glassboro, in 1997, with a bachelor’s degree in music. He has toured the United States and Europe interpreting roles in the operatic repertory, and has also made appearances in musical theatre, film and radio.

Mr. Colby, an Asbury Park resident, has served as president of the Arts Coalition of Asbury Park [ArtsCAP] since 2007. Mr. Colby spearheaded the TriCity Arts Tour, an annual arts festival partnership with Long Branch and Red Bank, and paved the way for city legislation to establish a public art policy for murals and sculpture, to transform the city’s appearance.

“I am truly honored to be joining a team that presents such high-quality live entertainment in such a beautiful and historic setting,” Mr. Colby said. “Despite the current economic climate, I am ready to meet our fundraising challenges head-on, and help this landmark theatre thrive and prosper.”

William Whitefield, the organization’s director of arts and education, says he is enthusiastic about the future of the theatre, according to the release.

“We are thrilled that Brett has joined our team here at Algonquin Arts,” Mr. Whitefield said. “I have seen how much Asbury Park’s art scene has benefited from his hard work and dedication to ArtsCAP, and I know that he will help us find a new level of success here in Manasquan.”
